How Things Work

Quick guides for the main appliances and systems in the house.

🔥

Fireplace

Open the air vent (lever on the right side)
Place 2–3 small logs with kindling underneath
Light the kindling and leave the glass door slightly open for 5 minutes
Once the fire is established, close the glass door
Firewood is in the basket on the terrace

Heating & Thermostat

The Nest thermostat is in the hallway
Turn the dial to set your desired temperature
Underfloor heating takes ~30 min to warm up
Please set to 16°C when leaving for the day

Coffee Machine (Nespresso)

Fill the water tank at the back
Press the power button — wait for it to heat up (30 sec)
Insert a capsule and select your cup size
Extra capsules are in the kitchen drawer under the machine

Sauna

Switch on at the panel inside the sauna cabin (left wall)
Set temperature to 80–90°C
Allow 30–40 minutes to heat up
Please switch off after use and leave the door ajar to ventilate

Waste & Recycling

Grey bin — General waste (restafval). Collection: Tuesday morning.
Green bin — Organic / food waste (GFT). Collection: Thursday morning.
Blue bin — Paper & cardboard (papier). Collection: Every other Wednesday.
Orange bag — Plastic packaging (PMD). Collection: Every other Friday.
Glass bottles → the glass container at the Albert Heijn parking lot (5 min drive)

Place bins at the curb by 07:30 on collection mornings.

House Rules

A Few Friendly Guidelines

To keep the villa in perfect condition for every guest.

No smoking inside. You are welcome to smoke on the terrace. Ashtrays are provided.

Quiet hours: 22:00 – 08:00. The villa is in a residential nature area. Please keep noise to a minimum in the evenings.

Pets are welcome (max 1 dog). Please keep dogs off the furniture and beds. A towel for muddy paws is in the hallway closet.

Shoes off inside, please. The oak floors are delicate. Slippers are provided in each bedroom.
🎉
No parties or events. Maximum occupancy is 8 people. Visitors are not permitted to stay overnight.
🚲
Bicycles: 4 bikes are available in the garden shed. Please lock them when not in use. Locks are on the rear wheel.
🧹
Leave as you found it. Please do a basic tidy — dishes in the dishwasher, bins emptied, beds stripped. A professional cleaning crew will handle the deep clean.

A wide, clean North Sea beach with excellent beach pavilions. Beautiful for swimming in summer, dramatic storm-watching in winter. Follow the sandy path from the back garden — 10 minutes through the dunes.

Schoorlse Duinen National Park

Hiking · Nature · Wildlife

The highest and widest dunes in the Netherlands. Multiple marked trails from 3km to 15km. Look out for Scottish Highlander cattle grazing freely in the dune valleys.

Every Friday from April to September, the famous traditional cheese market takes place on Waagplein. Arrive by 10:00 for the best experience. The old town is gorgeous for shopping afterwards.

Departure Checklist

A quick checklist to make sure everything is in order before you go. Thank you for taking care of our home!

Strip the beds and leave the linen in the laundry basket (bathroom)
Run the dishwasher or hand-wash and put away any dishes
Empty the fridge — take any perishables with you or discard them
Take out the rubbish to the correct bins in the garden
Turn off the fireplace and sauna
Set the thermostat to 16°C
Close all windows and lock all doors
Return bicycles to the garden shed
Place the key back in the lockbox by the front door
